Holistic Counselling - what to expect in person

A holistic counselling session recognises how all aspects of life are interconnected.

Through supportive conversation and intuitive guidance, it creates a safe space for self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. supporting your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing,

Here’s what happens:

Arrival & chat

When you arrive, we’ll take a few minutes to settle in.

You’ll be welcomed into a safe, comfortable, and confidential space.

We may begin with a grounding practice (gentle breathing, mindfulness, or a short body scan) to help you feel calm and present.

This time allows you to transition from the busyness of everyday life into the session

Any information will be held in confidentiality (please note the only time I would need to share this with an outside agency (such as a GP) is if there was any indication that you were at risk of harming yourself or others).

Check-in & sharing

We’ll start by talking about how you’ve been feeling since our last session (or what brings you here if it’s your first).

You are invited to share whatever feels important – thoughts, emotions, challenges, or even physical sensations.

My role is to listen deeply, without judgement, and to help you feel heard and understood.

Exploration & counselling

This is the heart of the session where we explore your experiences more deeply.

We may look at:

  • Emotional patterns or recurring challenges
  • Underlying beliefs and self-talk
  • Stress, anxiety, or relationship dynamics
  • Ways of reconnecting with your inner strengths and wisdom
  • Sessions are collaborative: we work together at your pace, following what feels right for you

I may gently offer reflections, ask guiding questions, or suggest techniques to bring new awareness.

Integrative holistic tools

To support healing on more than just a mental level, we may bring in holistic practices such as:

  • Breathwork – calming the nervous system and reducing stress.
  • Mindfulness / Meditation – building presence and inner awareness.
  • Creative Expression – journaling, drawing, or symbolic work to explore emotions.
  • Energy Awareness – connecting with body-mind signals, gentle visualisations, or grounding exercises

These tools are optional and will always be guided by what feels comfortable for you.

Reflection & integration

Towards the end, we take time to reflect on the session.

You may notice new insights, clarity, or shifts in how you feel.

Together we may:

  • Identify small, supportive practices for between sessions
  • Set intentions or affirmations
  • Explore self-care tools you can use in daily life
  • This ensures the session feels complete and you leave with something meaningful to carry forward

Closing & grounding

Before finishing, we return to a grounding practice so you feel centred and steady.

You’ll have space to ask any final questions or share how you’re feeling.

The session closes gently, leaving you supported and balanced.

"I wasn’t sure about trying holistic counselling, but I felt immediately comfortable and supported. The sessions have helped me process my emotions, find direction, and feel more balanced in my day-to-day life." - Laura H.
