Holistic counselling - what to expect online

Online holistic counselling offers the same depth of care and support as in-person sessions, but from the comfort of your own space.
Here’s what happens:
Arrival & chat
We will start with a short conversation based upon how you're feeling.
Please feel free to share anything that you would like to work on, such as:
- any areas of stress or pain
- anything you wish to focus on (physically, emotionally, or energetically).
There is no pressure to disclose this to me and any information will be held in confidentiality (However, I would need to share this with an outside agency (such as a GP) is if there were any signs that you were at risk of harming yourself or others).
Preparation before the session
Choose a quiet, comfortable space where you feel safe and won’t be disturbed.
Have a glass of water, a journal/pen, and perhaps a blanket or cushion nearby.
If you like, you can light a candle, use essential oils, or play soft background music to create a calming atmosphere.
Make sure your device is charged, your internet connection is stable, and you have privacy for the duration of the session.
Welcome & grounding
At the beginning of the call, we’ll check in and make sure you’re comfortable with the technology.
We’ll take a few moments to settle with a grounding or centering exercise (e.g., mindful breathing, noticing your surroundings).
This helps you arrive fully in the session and shift out of daily distractions.
Check-in & sharing
You’ll be invited to share how you’ve been feeling and what you’d like to focus on in more detail.
This could be anything on your mind – emotions, challenges, patterns, or intentions.
I hold space for you to express yourself freely in a safe, confidential, and supportive way.
Exploration & counselling
We explore your experiences in depth, just as in an in-person session.
Depending on your needs, this may include:
- Talking through emotions, worries, or life challenges
- Gaining clarity on thought patterns or behaviours
- Exploring ways of coping, healing, or growing
I may reflect back insights, ask guiding questions, or offer practices that support your wellbeing.
Holistic practices
Even online, we can use holistic tools that integrate mind, body, and spirit, such as:
- Breathwork – I guide you through simple breathing practices
- Meditation/visualisation – short guided practices for calm, clarity, or healing
- Journaling or reative xpression – prompts or exercises you can do during/after the session
- Energy awareness – grounding, body scanning, or connecting with inner resources
These practices are optional and always guided by your comfort level.
Reflection & integration
We take time to reflect on the session, allowing insights to settle.
You may choose to write down any reflections or practices you’d like to continue between sessions.
Together, we may set gentle intentions or self-care steps to support you until we meet again.
Closing & grounding
We finish with a grounding practice so you leave the session feeling steady and calm.
You’ll have the chance to share how you’re feeling and ask any final questions.
When the session ends, I recommend taking a few quiet moments before returning to your day – perhaps making a cup of tea, doing some stretches, getting outside or just taking a nap!
"The sessions gave me the direction I’d been missing. I feel lighter and much clearer about what steps to take next." - Tom B.
